We stopped in for late lunch on a Monday and were seated immediately. Our waitress, Baylee, brought us water, chips and salsa instantly and we decided to order the cheese enchiladas along with some white queso for the chips.

All the food arrived very quickly and tasted great. Our expectations for quality Tex-Mex cuisine aren't very high, but the food at Lagunas was a pleasant surprise. Usually, there's something that misses the mark, but even the rice and beans were up to snuff. We enjoyed everything we were served, our waitress kept our glasses full and promptly filled any request we had with a cheerful smile.

For a quality Tex-Mex meal in Lake Charles, Lagunas is definitely worth consideration. We will be back to try their other offerings very soon.

We came to Lagunas because it was recommended as a "high-end" Mexican restaurant.
Upon walking in, we weren't greeted by the hostess.  She barely spoke the at all, just "booth or table?" No smile.  Nothing inviting.  Other than her purple hair, she basically lacked a personality.  This is the employee they've chosen to give the restaurant's first impression.

Our server on the other hand, did a fine job!  Friendly, helpful, personable, knowledgeable.  I made a custom order and he was happy to oblige.

Side note: I sometimes worry that it's easy to get good reviews for service these days.  Basically, just don't be an asshole and people will be pleasantly surprised.

The food was according to my wife, "sufficient."

Again, kudos to the waiter, we didn't get his name, but he was the middle aged man with the good attitude.

    The prices are high end.

Went there for my wife's birthday and also because they took reservations for eight. I mentioned her birthday to the person who took the reservation and was told they would have a small dessert with a candle. I also mentioned it to the server. Didn't get anything but a big bill.
The service was very fast and friendly.
Food not. The fajitas had little taste and hardly any veggies. The tortillas were store bought. No one in our group had any positive comments on their food.
Considering the high price it wasn't worth the time.
This was our first visit and probably our last. Many real Mexican restaurants in our area.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. Waitress was not very knowledgeable on the menu items and actually gave a wrong description. Kitchen staff runs out the food. I ordered the brisket tacos and the meat was dry, tough and flavorless. Queso and beans was guaranteed out of a can. After the waitress dropped off the check she proceeded to sit down and chat with a friend for a good while. She spent more time talking with her friend than seeing to her customers. Also, waitress never asked how our food was or anything about our visit. Not worth any amount of change for that experience.

I visited this restaurant as a first time patron on 2/8/19 for dinner. This review is my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I am a self-proclaimed food connoisseur and cook, as well a writer and lover of words.

The decor was for a Mexican restaurant was missing. The restaurant has no theme that includes colors and iconic motifs and décor. The reasons that Mexican restaurant do so well is the colors associated with the traditional décor. It's appetite stimulating and they create feelings of pleasure--psychology of color. However, I like the idea of looking out from your table and you can see the water. I think their outdoor covered patio area is a win for summer months. It's inviting; however, it could use some sprucing.

My food experience: I ordered the white queso dip. No flavor, pretty bland. The best part of the dip was that it was served hot. The chips were on point. For my meal, I ordered the Brochetas de Camaron for $17.99. That is 6 bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp stuffed with shredded cheese and poblano pepper, served on a bed of grilled onions and bell peppers, along with a cup of charros bean soup. They also provide you with tortillas, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. The shrimp were not jumbo. I saw the poblano pepper, but couldn't find the cheese inside the shrimp. It was dry and had no taste, even with the bacon on the outside. The vegetables were grilled nicely. The dish lacks on presentation and taste. The side of charros soup was good and flavor was present. However, they give you a cup (8oz), but mine was only 4 oz full. I was finished w/ the soup in four bites. When I asked our server if this is the norm to serve it half full, she said yes that's how it normally comes. I felt slighted because I wanted my money's worth for the meal, even if it was 4 more ounces.

I chalked the overall experience up to--it was a new restaurant I was trying, it didn't work out, and now I know. The server was friendly, but the restaurant was lacking on food quality and presentation. For that reason, I will not return. I hope the owners will read this and take it as constructive criticism, because Lake Charles needs restaurants with longevity. We need more restaurant, and ones that are consistent in service, and I would like to see Lagunas succeed.
